Penn State Libraries Today and in 1950

One of my reading class assignments was visiting Foxdale Village, which is a retirees’ community. I made a wonderful interview with Mrs. Charlotte De Lissovoy. We talked about several interesting things about her life. Also, I asked her some questions that I was curious about. One of these questions was about where she is from. She told me that she was from Altoona, PA, but she spent most of her life in State College. She studied at Penn State University, and she was a freshman in 1950.  From this point I asked her about Penn State and how the student life looked like during that time. She said that they had a wonderful time, but it was very different from nowadays. One of the big differences is technology. For example, at that time students used to be depending more on libraries. They studied and did research in them. Comparing with today, the Internet made a big change for students. It allowed them not to go to the library to study. Therefore, the number of students has decreased in libraries.

All of that made me interested about the libraries of Penn State at that time. Therefore, I searched about them in 1950 using Penn State Libraries’ Website. I found a news article about Penn State Libraries’ hours at that time. Most of them started at 8 A.M. and closed at 10 P.M. (Summer Collegian) These hours are similar to libraries’ hours today. However, libraries today have technological services that were not available at that time.

See The Miracle

I am relay moved by this story. It is about a woman has tow daughters, and they were in  a very small island for vacation. One of her daughters fell down from balcony (twenty feet below). The other  daughter saw her sister lay on the ground without any move. Then she started to scream. The women described the hard events, like how she carried her hurt daughter and how it was difficult to find a doctor to help her daughter. Finally, her daughter is alive. Thus, she titled her story be (See the Miracle).P126

Foxdale Tripe

First of all, I had expectations made me scare a lttile from that place. I thought maybe the old people never talked with international people, so it will be hard for them to understand the different culture . Actually, they are familiar with different culture, also the are friendly ,nice and they have high education . I enjoyed every things like, how they welcomed ,their smile and hoe they are happy.Additionally , the most thing I enjoyed is the conversation with my partner. For me I didn't have any challenging in foxdale
For future IECP students who taking a trip similar to this, I want to say : Do not loss this experience , it is relay wonderful.

My Declaration of Self-Esteem

On Monday I red in book ( The Original Chicken Soup for the Soul) from part (Learning to Love Yourself), about girl's answer for "How can I prepare myself for a fulfilling life?". Her answer was amazing, she wrote how that no one exactly like her. She own her dreams , ideas and image . all that can make her love her self and be friendly with her self. So in her opinion nothing is not possible to do in her life. Therefore, she considered that as a self-esteem , and I agree with her.

All I Remember

I started to read a different book from the one  I used to read, which  is (Chicken Soup for the Soul)
This book has different stories,
one of those stories I red is( All I Remember) . The most striking quote I red is ( When my father spoke to me, he always began the conversation with "Have I told you yet today how much I adore you?"p.29)
It's very influential for me, maybe because I always use the same language with my daughter!also,  I liked how the Writer loves her dad and she didn't forget the nice words from her dad even after he died.

My Emotion

I felt sad when I red the Hazel's email to Houten. Especially when she described how the story effects in her feeling and how she wants to knew about what happened after Anna's die. Also, I enjoyed the talking between Hazel and Augustus on the phone, they are so sensitive to etch other.

Anna Story

The most interesting character for me was Anna and her story. First, her charity work despite her illness, which is Anna Foundation for People with Cancer. Also, when I was reading about Anna I was thinking about Augustus's feelings because he has cancer and Ann's end is so sad. That would be very influential for Augustus.

The summary outline

* Waking up early (Page 38)
       - reading Augustus Waters book (Page 39)
       - Half birthday (Page 40)
* Going to the mall (Page 41)
       - Meeting Kaitlyn (Page 42)
       - Shoe store (Page 43)
       - Reading the book alone (Page 45)

What surprised me most about the reading:

The most thing that surprised me was that she celebrated half birthdays. I also find it surprising that Staff Sergeant Max Mayhem did not die after 17 shots.
